Welcome to 500WL

Greetings and welcome! to the inaugural address for what shall be known as, 500 Words or Less (500WL), where I, Reeves Froning bring you my thoughts about anything and everything game related in, you guessed it 500 words or less.

For this initial publication of 500WL, I would like to take the time to give back-story regarding the person behind the words that you will be reading. Like many, I have been gaming since a very young age. In fact, my earliest experience with gaming dates to the mid-1990’s. It was in the family housing of Colorado State University, where I was sitting on my father’s lap. In the mid-summer heat, he joggled the joystick, maneuvering through space and blasting rebel scum. It was then I was introduced to gaming via Star Wars: Tie Fighter. Though the inceptive steps had been taken, I would not take the reins myself till later in the decade, with my first game being The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. Ultimately from the late-1900’s to early 2000’s I worked through many of the classics from that time with the most memorable games for me being Star Wars: Rouge Squadron, and Fallout 2.

Sometime during the late 2000’s a completely different world of gaming was opened to me, with my first disc-copy of World of Warcraft, along with its first expansion World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade. Now of course prior to this, I had engaged in multiplayer centered games a la Counter Strike 1.6. However, this was my first experience with a game that was not purely match-based interaction between players. The popularity, and ultimate reliance on the game’s community were revolutionary to me. It pushed my video game tastes to a broader outlook and cemented multiplayer game-play as something that I desired from my experiences in-game.

Looking back, my gaming experience has been a wide range of titles, and genres. Like many who have devoted, and invested into this hobby, I have developed, quite the catalogue of games, and with it a backlog that is rather absurd. However, that is enough about my gaming history, and I tire of talking about myself so final remarks!

In case you didn’t know, I’m part of a gaming podcast called Press Maru, so if you desire to hear four of us fumble our way through, and talk a little about those things called video games, come check it out!

With the shameless self-promotion out of the way, I would like to take this last paragraph to briefly discuss the rationale behind starting this blog. Ultimately, I have had this passion for gaming that has spanned my entire lifetime, and for the first time I have the desire to have a platform to share my thoughts and ideas, and inspire and engage in discussion.

Finally, I would just like to thank anyone who has taken the time to read this introductory piece. If you enjoyed this, and want more stay on the lookout for more!
